Landscape Photography of Sunburst Peak in Mt. Assiniboine Provincial Park in the Canadian Rockies, British Columbia

Prestige – 2019

This landscape photograph was taken in Mt. Assiniboine Provincial Park in British Columbia, Canada and pictures the prominent Sunburst Peak. Accessible only by helicopter or hiking, Mt. Assiniboine is one of the most formidable peaks in the Canadian Rockies. My wife and I opted to hike into this park in the summer of 2019. After 29 kilometres, we wished we would have taken the helicopter. There isn’t much elevation gain on the hike, but 29km’s with 45 pounds on our small backs was unpleasant.

All that said, the payoff of seeing the incredible spire of Mt. Assiniboine was worth every kilometre of pain. After a break, setting up camp at Magog Lake, and a good meal of dehydrated food, we explored Mt. Assiniboine Provincial Park for 3 days. This allowed us to take in a few of the day hikes in the area. One of those hikes is a short hike to Sunburst Peak which rises out of Sunburst Lake. This area was littered with beautiful wildflowers, making it a prime location for landscape photography. We ended up taking in the most colourful sunset of our trip at the shore of Sunburst Lake as the last light hit Sunburst Peak.
