STORM CHASING

Welcome to the exhilarating world of storm chasing, where adventure meets the awe-inspiring forces of nature. Embark on a journey unlike any other as we invite you to join us in chasing down some of the planet’s most captivating weather phenomena. From towering supercells to mesmerizing lightning displays, storm chasing offers an unparalleled opportunity to witness the raw power and beauty of nature up close.

WHY STORM CHASING?

Growing up in Saskatchewan, severe storms were part of life. Every summer, Tornado Alley shifts north to include the Canadian prairies. Living in rural Saskatchewan, I was fascinated by the thunderheads and dramatic skies at the end of a hot summer day. One particular evening, when the sky grew dark, I spotted the Tornado Hunter “Dominator” storm chase vehicle near my parent’s home. That stirred something deep down; storm chasing was something people did.

In my early 30s, nature photography had become a big part of my life. I had photographed storms as they passed through where I had planned to shoot but had never actually storm chased before. But even this minimal experience was enough to stir a love of severe storms, so I set out to understand them. Fast forward to today, and not only do I storm chase most severe storm setups to create timelapse films like the one below, but I lead storm chasing photography tours in Saskatchewan. If you’re interested in joining me and learning more about one of the most powerful phenomena in nature, check out my storm chasing photography tours below.

SEVERE STORM TIMELAPSE PHOTOGRAPHY

The best way to capture the dynamic beauty of storms is through time-lapse photography. As severe storm clouds rotate and lightning streaks across the sky, each frame tells a story of the ever-changing atmospheric conditions. Through careful planning and precise storm chasing, storm time-lapse condenses hours of storm activity into captivating sequences that showcase the intensity and majesty of these powerful weather events. I have been timelapsing severe storms for several years and have curated a gallery of short films below called “Land of Living Skies”: Saskatchewan’s catchphrase.
