Living Sky Tours had a memorable tour season in 2026. Our first tour was a private tour with Grown Up Travels, beginning July 2. It’s uncommon for us to get a storm pattern where we chase day after day after day, but that’s exactly what happened during our slate of tours; I believe we only didn’t chase for a couple of days during the first two weeks of July.
July 3rd started terribly, personally. I woke up with a migraine and worked all morning to rid myself of it. Thankfully, the setup for the day seemed pretty tame. There would be storms, but there wasn’t a lot of shear to make them very photogenic. After chatting with Craig about my condition, we decided that he would take out our guests that day, and I would focus on recovering for the following day.
Storms began around Assiniboia early in the afternoon, and they looked as messy as expected. At that time, my migraine was becoming more manageable, so I was already toying with the idea of heading out. Then the storm began to strengthen on radar, so I decided that, because it wouldn’t take much more than an hour of driving to intercept the storm’s path, I would try to meet the tour. This is the great thing about tours: you’re out on setups that you might not have thought about normally. What was modelled was not what we saw in reality. The storm was the most photogenic of the last few years and nearly had a brief tornado when we saw a big fat cone-shaped funnel. A memorable day and one that you can read more about on the Grown Up Travels website.
